Can Jehovahs witnesses have facial hair?

Well besides the women... Kidding

Seriously though can the men have beards or do they have to be clean shaven? Can Jehovahs witnesses have facial hair?
I've been in Congs. in the UK,Australia and France and can tell you that beards are not accepted, that is if you are a brother. An unbaptized study can wear one with the hope that he will shave it in due time.If he doesn't shave it he will not be allowed to give talks or have any 'privileges'.I have known a brother who had bad acne so grew a beard,he was told to shave it otherwise he would not be giving any more talks from the platform.

An answer i have heard given about why they frown upon beards is 'Back in the days of the Israelites,Jews would grow beards to stand out from the Egyptians and other nations who were clean shaven...today we Witnesses are clean shaven so as to stand out from the world'.Can Jehovahs witnesses have facial hair?
Since Adam, all male witnesses of Jehovah grew beards until the day of Judge Rutherford, who went as far as removing the beard from Jesus in Watchtower illustrations for forty years, The Watchtower always depicts Satan as clean shaven. Men shaving their beards is idolatry, a rebellion against God. Report Abuse

Jesus has a beard. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a beard. To require men to shave their beards is nonsense. Where is the biblical support for requiring men to shave their beards? Jesus would NEVER shun you for a having a beard, why does the JW church do so? Striving to look feminine? Report Abuse

In some countries the men do have beards and other facial hair. It really depends on the area a person lives in. If it is acceptable to have facial hair, then some do.

In the USA, most men don't because facial hair, outside of a mustache, is considered unprofessional and not very common in even the business world.
It depends on the area they live in. In some countries facial hair is widely accepted and does not have a negative connotation. In the US, you rarely see full facial hair (other than staces) on business men. JWs follow the business world in what is considered acceptable. Just like in various countries certain jewelry is considered acceptable, wherein in other countries it can signify something negative.

The WTBTS sets the tone, if you look at the pictures in their magz, when they present modern day JWs, they never have full facial hair. However, you can tell if they are depicting men of old, they generally have full facial hair.
yeah we can. I used to have a pretty good looking beard/mustache combo. I dont anymore because in my country a beard is viewed as a sign of rebellion and i want to make a good impression. Pretty soon i wont have to worry about that though.
In a nearby congregation, we have a brother who was in a fire that affected the appearance of his face. He wears a beard to help cover those areas.

He is a brother in good standing and he and the congregation have no problem with it. There are a few others also. But not the majority, because as was mentioned, it is not the ';business standard';. But the day may come.
I don't know, but I can't imagine how any Church would base their answer to this on something in the Bible. Because I don't think the Bible makes any clear statement as to whether a man can or should have a beard, or whether he should be clean shaven.
Yes.

Jehovah's Witness men always seek to look smart, clean and like representatives of God.

If where you live men with facial hair are not considered ';smart, clean and like representatives of God.';, then the local JWs will not keep facial hair.

Ahhhh.... what an honour to have all these cute guys as brothers ^_^
They can if the ';want';.

They will probably not though, while participating in the ministry %26amp; when attending Bible studies/meetings at our place of worship, as in the U.S. it just fits the professional look to be clean-shaven, with maybe a mustache.
funny story, my biological father was an elder, and he had a hitler mustache, everybody laughed at it, but he thought it was cool. but when he decided to grow a beard, the circuit overseer told him it was a no no. go figure?
I've seen mustaches, but no they generally do not have full beards where I live.
I really don't know, I'd like to find out though.

I've always seen them clean shaven so that is my guess.
13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice鈥攏or do the churches of God.

No they are not to have a beard. This is the passages for which they arrive at such a conclusion. The JW's themselves are not able to understand this verse and neither can you or I, But the Governing Body can. From here, you know the rest of the story.
