the only salon type work i tip for is a hair stylist and that's if they're really good. only other times to tip -- anyone waiting tables and anyone working outdoors. i'm shocked at how many professions expect tips these days.

It is customary, just like tipping anyone that does your hair or nails.
The rate on the bottom end of the scale is 10%.
